Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where do the Norwich Road Runners Meet?

The club meets at Sewell Park Sports Centre - located on Constitution Hill, Norwich, Norfolk, NR3 4BX. We meet on Mondays (beginners), Tuesdays (Efforts) and Thursdays (Road Run). We meet in the main reception area and all sessions start at 7:05pm, following brief announcements.

Sewell Park Sports Centre has free parking, changing facilities and showers, a small bar (unfortunately it no longer serves alcohol) and lockers (20p with a £1 returnable deposit).

Q. What do your club nights involve?

We have three club nights:

Mondays - Beginners - Our beginners sessions are for those who are either completely new to running, or who are returning after a period of absence. Our coaches undertake a variety of sessions designed to slowly introduce people to running (i.e. walk/run sessions) over a short distance. There is also a five mile recovery group, for members who want to have a relaxed pace run to unwind their legs after a busy weekend of racing.

Tuesdays - Effort Sessions - Easily our most popular night, with more than 100 members regularly attending. There are two sessions - a field based session around a grass track, and a road session. These are designed to focus on speed and pace rather than endurance, with each session lasting around 45 minutes. Coaches usually advertise their session on our Facebook Group a day or two beforehand.

For more information on coaching at NRR please click here.

Thursdays - Road Run - A run either into Norwich or around the surrounding suburbs. Three routes are offered - a short route (up to 4 miles), a medium route (around 6 miles) and a long route (usually around 8 miles). A nominated person talks runners through the route, organise pace groups, and then go out and run the course. We have pace groups ranging from fast (6-7min miles) to a slower pace (10-11min miles). All routes are advertised in advance in our Facebook Group.

All of our sessions are undertaken by qualified and DBS checked instructors, who hold (as a minimum) the Leadership in Running Fitness Award.

All club nights start at 7:05pm.

Q. I'm thinking of trying out your club. Do I just turn up?

If you're thinking about trying a couple of our sessions (great!), then you can come along to any one of our sessions. Please make yourself known to a coach or committee member when arriving for the first time, and they will talk you through what is happening on the evening. If you are able to, please let us know you are going to attend, so we can keep an eye out for you - let us know at

Typically we allow newcomers up to 5 weeks of attending our sessions before we ask them to join us. You can join before then if you like the club.

Please note: High visibility clothing is mandatory in the Autumn/Winter months when it is dark past 7pm. We also advise you come dressed in clothing appropriate to running, and bring any water or gels you may need.

Q. I would like to join the club. How do I do this and how much is it?

Brilliant. We're glad you want to become a Norwich Road Runner.

Membership is as follows:

  • Senior Member: £35
  • Second Claim Member: £15

Joining the club can be done in one of two ways:

You can pick up a paper membership form from the notice board at Sewell Park. Fill this in and hand in, along with cash or cheque, to our Membership Secretary or to a committee member.

Q. I have now joined the club. Is there anything I need to know?

Welcome to the Norwich Road Runners. We hope you enjoy running with us.

There are a few things you will need to know, most of which is on this website.

UK Athletics Affiliation Number / Unique Runner Number

Upon joining the club you will be registered with UK Athletics and given a Unique Runner Number. You will receive a welcome pack from UK Athletics in the post however this can take some time to be sent and delivered.

When signing up for races as a Norwich Road Runner most organisers will ask for your UK Athletics Affiliation Number. If you have not received this through the post please contact our Membership Officer. Additionally, there is a link at the bottom of the website where you can search for your number.

Norwich Road Runners Vest

When entering and participating in a race you are required, under UK Athletics' rules, to wear our club vest. This is a black vest with a red and white stripe along the right side, and Norwich Road Runner's branding. These can be purchased from Sportlink Running Fitness, or at the club by speaking to a committee member. For more info on the club vest, please click here.

Attending the Club

You are not required to attend the club on a regular basis  - we all have busy lives after all. Once you're a member you are free to attend (or not attend) as best suits you. Your membership will not lapse if you don't attend, and you will be a full member of the club (regardless of if you attend club every week, or once a year) until your membership lapses on 31st March.

Running Norwich Road Runners' Events

Our main races - the Broadland Half Marathon, Wroxham 5k Series and Horsford XC Series, take a great deal of time to hold, and require the help of our members to make a success. If you're a member of the club and want to run in one of our events, we ask that you provide a marshal in your place, to help the race be held in a safe manner. If in doubt, please speak to the race's director.

London Marathon

As a UKA Affiliated club, the Norwich Road Runners receives a number of places for the London Marathon (dependent on the membership levels of the club), which we put into a ballot, to allow all members an equal chance of securing a place. In order to ensure fairness in the ballot - the committee have put in place some guidance and rules. Please click here to view these.

Facebook Group

The majority of our club members are in our Facebook Group, and are quite active when discussing running and other events. Its definitely worth joining the group if you become a member of the club (it is closed so your request may take some time to be approved) - click here.

You can follow us on Twitter @NorwichRoadRun. Swing by and say Hi!

Q. I have moved to another club, or wish to resign. How do I do this?

We're sorry to see you leave us.

If you are moving to another club, then under UK Athletics'' rules you are required to formally notify the club, to which our Membership Officer will acknowledge your resignation and remove you from our UK Athletics' portal. You are then able to join another club.

Please note that UK Athletics may charge a small administration fee for moving clubs. This is independent of the Norwich Road Runners.

For more information on changing club affiliation, please visit the England Athletics website.
